Flexi Press Tips – How to time and price them

Are you already using our Flexi Press Tip system? If so we would love to know exactly what you think, and find out how using Flexi press tips have improved your business. Please take a few minutes to complete our survey.

MISSU Gel Flexi Press Tips have understandably taken the nail industry by storm. The innovation and ease of use are just among the many reasons that nail technicians are choosing to upgrade to this system. However, many questions seem to be left unanswered.

  1. How do we market this to our clientele?
  2. How much time do I need?
  3. What should I charge?

It’s important to firstly understand why full cover tips are so popular, what the benefits are to the client, and the technician, and finally what’s wrong with our old ways of extending? Well the answer is simply that there is definitely nothing wrong with the ‘old’ ways of sculpting! Whether it was with gel or acrylic, dip methods or fiberglass. They are just different methods and it is your personal preference. But why are Flexi Press Tips the best choice?

Flexi tips last just as long, if not longer than any other method of extension. They adhere using a gel product, no glue or resin. Secondly, they are quicker. You can apply a set of Flexi Press Tips in half the time it takes to apply more traditional methods of extensions. One of the reasons they are quicker is because with such a huge range of lengths and shapes available, including extra long and extra wide, you don’t ever need to trim them or shape them! You simply apply and move on. So you take out lots of steps that you would usually need to do. There is also so much less filing, save those wrists! The most filing required is simply to prep the natural nail then buff over the Flexi tip before applying a colour coat.

Here are the super simple steps to applying Flexi Press tips:

Step 1: Prep the natural nail by pushing back and removing the cuticle then buffing over the surface of the nail with a 180 grit file to remove any shine.

Step 2: Measure each Flexi tip to each nail and set them out in order.

Step 3: Apply a thin layer of MISSU base coat and cure for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Apply strengthener to the underside of the Flexi tip, apply to the nail and hold in place whilst curing for 30 seconds.

Step 5: Top coat the underside of the free edge and cure for 45 seconds.

Step 6: Buff over the Flexi tips to remove the shine.

Step 7: Apply the desired shade of MISSU gel polish and cure for 30 seconds. Repeat for the second coat.

Step 8: Apply MISSU top coat and cure for 45 seconds.

Et voila! 8 steps, minimal filing, no sculpting, no shape making. Minimum effort and maximum results. Lasts 4 weeks. Very easy to remove, simply buff and soak off.

In order to time your Flexi tip application this is what we recommend:

0-5 minutes: consultation

5-10 minutes: Natural nail preparation.

10-15 minutes: Size the flexi tips

15-20 minutes: Apply base coat and a layer of strengthener (optional)

20-25 minutes: Apply flexi tips, curing one at a time

25-30 minutes: Top coat the underside of the free edge and buff over the flexi tip to remove shine.

30-35 minutes: Apply first coat of gel polish and cure

35-40 minutes: Apply a second coat of gel polish and cure.

40-45 minutes: Apply top coat and cure.

The total time for application and gel polish is 45-60 minutes. But please consider these additional steps and allow time accordingly.

Does the client require extra prep work for stubborn cuticles? (add 5-10 minutes)

Are you applying nail art? (add between 10-20 minutes depending on the desired outcome)

Now, how long would you usually book out for a full set of sculpted stiletto nails with nail art?…..

It is important to remember that when considering any additional time for your client such as for nail art you must charge accordingly. The easiest way is to time it if it takes 5 minutes add £3 but if it takes an additional 20 minutes then charge £12-£15. But what is great with Flexi tips is that the client is receiving exactly what they want and you can charge exactly the same as any other extension method.

Prices vary from county to county, it can depend if you’re north, south, in a city or village etc. Pricing your services depends on your level of skill, the quality of products you are using and a small portion of that can be where you are based. We have seen a range of as much as £25-£65 being charged for a set of extensions. Our advice is to charge the same as what you are charging for any other method of extensions. The bonus is, Flexi tips are going to be quicker and more cost-effective for you, meaning more profit.

Now all that there is left to do, is market this new system to your clientele. During a consultation you will establish the following:

  • How long does the client want their extensions?
  • What shape does the client want their extensions?
  • What colour?
  • Any nail art?

In a hopeful world, you can then just go ahead with your service, but it’s not always that simple, especially with those eagle-eyed clients! So this is the simple list of positives that you give:

  • Flexi tips last longer
  • Flexi tips are more comfortable to wear and feel most natural
  • Flexi tips are not as abrasive to the natural nail
  • Flexi tips have the perfect length and shape – every time
  • Flexi tips are easy to remove

MISSU also market their Flexi Press Tips directly to the consumer, we advertise the benefits to them and share our pictures far and wide, so this supports you as business owners in converting the fingertips of the world to wearing MISSU Flexi press tips.
